The Pendulum Slip Tester
How safe are your floors?
The HSE and the UKSRG have confirmed the Pendulum Slip Tester (BS 7976) to be the most reliable and accurate tester, leading to its adoption as the standard HSE Test Method for the assessment of pedestrian slip potential.
What the test involves: (approx 1 m2 of floor is required for testing).
- Testing the floor dry as found in 3 directions *
- Testing the floor wet as found in 3 directions *
- Testing the floor wet after cleaning in 3 directions *
- Apply anti slip treatment in increments of 10 minutes.
- Retest and re-apply anti slip treatment until a slip resistant value (SRV) 36+ Low Risk is recorded on the Pendulum Tester.
* Recording 8 readings in each direction.
A comprehensive report is complied following the assessment showing - Site Tested, Method Used, Results Obtained (SRVs) and whether the floor is suitable for purpose.
This report indicates that you are meeting your responsibilities to provide a safer environment and provides a paper trial to illustrate the company’s commitment to ‘due diligence’.
Are you unsure of how safe you floor is? RODAL can test the slip resistance of your floors. We utilise the HSE's preferred method of testing, namely the British Pendulum Tester (BS 7976).
This will give an assessment of risk in both wet and dry conditions. Testing also indentifies whether slip issues are a direct result of the floor or the maintenance programme. Regular annual testing will also provide a paper trail to illustrate due diligence.
